About Me

My name is Tomas Kapitan. I have been working with and learning Microsoft Dynamics NAV / Microsoft Dynamics 365 Business Central since 2014. I have led and participated in more than 15 implementation projects (from small to middle size) from various industries (manufacturing, wholesale, retail, service companies, …).

In the Czech Republic in most cases, I am working for ARTEX Informační systémy, spol. s r.o., Microsoft Gold Partner for ERP (who has won Microsoft 2018 Partner of the year in the Czech Republic).

I also provide my services as a freelancer with specialization on Microsoft Dynamics 365 Business Central in project management, consultancy and developer’s team-leading. I am open to any interesting project-based offer!


Current Status

My Experiences

Since I have started my journey with Microsoft Dynamics NAV and Microsoft Dynamics 365 Business Central in 2014, I planned, consulted and led many interesting projects from various industries with different sizes.

In the section below, I’ve described the most interesting projects that I worked on or I’m still working on. In addition to the listed projects, I did many small-sized projects in different positions for different companies.

Microsoft Dynamics NAV (Classic, version 3.7 – 2009)

  • Many projects with on-going support for clients who had used these versions of the system. Almost every one of them has already upgraded their ERP to the newer Microsoft Dynamics NAV or 65 Business Central.

  • Post-Implementation Support & On-Going Support (from 2018 to 2020)
    • Company’s info: +100 users; +€125-150.000.000 annual turnover (2017)
    • Company has implemented NAV 2017 with one of the Czech Microsoft Partners; however, due to some changes in companies management on both sides, the project failed. I took over the project 2 months after the Go-Live in the unsustainable state, and over the next year, I changed many processes and functions and brought the system to the state, where the company were satisfied.

  • Implementation of NAV2017 (in 2017)
    • Company’s info: +250 users; +€75-100.000.000 annual turnover (2019)
    • Implementation of Microsoft Dynamics NAV for one of the biggest company with construction material in the Czech Republic.
    • My Roles: Project Manager, Lead Analyst and Lead Developer
    • Team: Me, 7 junior developers, 3 senior developers, 2 consultants

    • Two companies (within one DB) manufacturing concrete products for hall and building constructions.

    • Project range: Original project 175 – 225 Man-Days
  • Implementation of Business Central (in 2019)
    • Company’s info: +40 users; +€10-15.000.000 annual turnover (2018)
    • England based company manufacturing Wooden furniture implemented Business Central with IT company from India.
    • Hired to review and evaluate suggested solution and final version.
    • My Roles: External Consultant, Decision Maker, Evaluater
    • Project range: Original project 150 – 200 Man-Days

  • Financial Sector
    • On-going Consultancy (from 2019 – 2020)
      • Company’s info: +75 users; +€50-75.000.000 annual turnover (2017)
      • England based company with Business Central implemented in 2019. Very customized solution extended with many features for the financial sector (stocks, commodities).
      • Hired to help understand their system when the internal CIO has left. The system and modifications were undocumented and many functionalities weren’t in a suitable state.
      • My Roles: Lead Consultant, External CIO responsible for internal systems
      • Project range: Project range: Original project took almost 2 years (2018 – 2019), and before I was hired, the implementation team almost fell apart. I helped to build a new external team of freelancers who took a part in finishing the project.
  • Vending Machines Servicing
    • Implementation of Business Central On-Premises (in 2020)
      • Company’s info: +50 users; +€15-20.000.000 annual turnover (2019)
      • Implementation of Business Central, all modification are done through Extensions without any change in the Core.
      • Responsible for architecture and development of the core functionality – Vending Module that manages all processes linked to Vending Machines, Machine Inspections, AutoInvoicing, Contract, … (1/4 of the whole project)
